Community Health Innovation and Research Program (CHIRP) Program Administrator

Duties & Responsibilities  

The Harvard Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC), known as Harvard Catalyst, will facilitate clinical and translational research throughout the 27 Harvard schools and Academic Healthcare Centers (Massachusetts General Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and others) by lowering barriers to inter-institutional research, providing seed funding for collaborative experiments, and helping trainees and faculty gain access to resources. Harvard Catalyst's annual operating budget exceeds $38 million, funded by the NIH and the participating Harvard institutions.

The Harvard Catalyst Community Health Innovation and Research Program (HC-CHIRP) seeks to build a knowledge translation infrastructure that engages communities and speeds the development, adoption, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based policies and practices to improve population health. HC-CHIRP works in three overlapping domains:   Public Policy, Community-Based Primary Care, and Coordinated Community Partnerships.It is an objective of HC-CHIRP to systematically engage and reward faculty and students from across the University in results-driven, community-engaged policy- and practice-relevant health research

Reporting to the Deputy Director, Community Health Innovation and Research Program (HC-CHIRP) and the Harvard Catalyst Director of Administration and Program Development, the CHIRP Program Administrator will work closely with the Deputy Director, Program Co-Directors, and senior management team to implement CHIRP initiatives, bring them into the community, and evaluate their efficacy.

The program administrator will work closely with the faculty directors and senior faculty management team to participate in intervention and evaluation design by: envisioning the logistic process to implement the intervention, participating in initiative discussions and planning meetings, planning and executing the administrative functions necessary for a successful intervention, researching and recommending specific operational details to the committee, and identifying obstacles to creating and executing successful interventions supported by an HC-CHIRP grants program in MA communities. The CHIRP program administrator will develop/implement work plans that identify tasks, timelines and responsibilities to ensure successful program implementation; schedule/lead planning meetings with a work plan focus to resolve issues around task completion; collaborate with the Harvard Catalyst Communications Manager to develop and implement a CHIRP marketing plan to the Harvard Catalyst Community and the wider community; collaborate with the deputy director to design the CHIRP web presence to include information for both investigators and community members; manage the community interventions   budget; negotiate contracts for space, food, and technology needs; and assist in recruiting coordinating and compensating faculty and students from across HU and MA who participate in CHIRP research and evaluation projects

The program administrator will work with communities and populations throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and will travel to communities as far as 60 miles from Boston approximately 15 % of time.  

The program administrator will organize a review of the interventions and structure to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the newly revised program, plan and implement revisions and/or strategic changes, analyze the evaluations for improvement suggestions, and create and implement plans.   Other related duties as assigned.

This position is grant funded through April 30, 2013.

Basic Qualifications   

Bachelor’s degree. Five years of experience with community-based health policies and programs.  Must have valid drivers’ license. Excellent project management and competency with Microsoft Office and related software applications is required .     

Additional Qualifications  

MPH or equivalent degree preferred. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Experience and training in quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods preferred. The incumbent will have the ability to work across teams and with a variety of special/ongoing projects and constituencies. Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize, attend to details, and handle a wide range of tasks simultaneously. Familiarity with Harvard processes and procedures a plus. Should be able to demonstrate good judgment and  initiative.

Research Program Manager

Duties & Responsibilities:   

Manage and implement the Harvard Medical School (HMS) grant “A Systems Approach to Advancing Workforce Inclusion and Diversity.” Work with Project PI as a point of contact with senior administrators in HMS’ offices such as the Office for Faculty Affairs, Academic and Clinical Affairs, Medical Education, and Harvard Catalyst, as well as with offices of faculty development and multicultural affairs at HMS-affiliated institutions and senior vice presidents of research. Work closely with Research Team and act as liaison with grant’s Informatics Manager to develop systems and processes for collecting, organizing and managing data from HMS and its affiliated institutions; construct research designs; identify and conduct analyses; work with Research Team to develop interpretations of data analyses and to identify actionable policy recommendations. Work with Project PI to coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of programmatic initiatives created based on data interpretation. Prepare reports for senior leadership. Supervise the grant’s Program/Research Assistant. Staff and prepare agenda and documents for committee meetings, and organize follow up tasks. Develop and maintain administrative systems and procedures to secure confidential information. Maintain both paper and electronic documents created and/or acquired over the project’s duration. Track the project’s time line relative to the execution and completion of tasks. Support the work of the core Research Team through regular updates and alerts that inform both the technical and operational decisions related to the project’s activities. This position is funded through August 31, 2013.

Basic Qualifications:  

Advanced degree with five or more years of experience.

Additional Qualifications:   

Advanced degree (masters or higher) in one of the following fields preferred: sociology, education, psychology, public policy or economics. Strong background in social/behavioral sciences or epidemiology preferred. Experience with social networking analysis and longitudinal data sets a plus. Experience with data management, cleaning and restructuring of data, as well as a thorough understanding of basic descriptive and inferential statistics is required. Proven ability to take initiative, work independently and as a team member, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work well under deadlines. Track record of successful engagement in research projects with progressive increase in responsibility. Excellent and demonstrated project management and research skills, ability to manage a complex project and effectiveness as a team member. Strong written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated ability to organize, write about and discuss data and complex issues clearly. Excellent problem solving and analytical skills. Expected to work closely with HMS and its affiliated institutions to collect, report and use evaluation data.   Ability to communicate with highly diverse group of people and exhibit sensitivity to cultural differences.
