RTRN/Jackson Heart Study Collaboration

The Jackson Heart Study (JHS) is the largest single-sight, prospective, epidemiologic investigation of cardiovascular disease among African Americans ever undertaken.  It is a population-based longitudinal study.  The study site is in Jackson, Mississippi.  The Jackson Heart Study exemplifies a unique collaborative model among three participating institutions, Jackson State University, Tougaloo College and University of Mississippi Medical Center, the Jackson community, and the National Institutes of Health to discover and test best practices for eliminating health disparities.

In an effort to reach out to the scientific community in sharing Jackson Heart Study Data to foster collaborations and increase scientific productivity, JHS has partnered with RTRN.  This partnership is designed to stimulate interest throughout the RTRN community to utilize the data available through the Jackson Heart Study in the development of scientific literature, publications and ancillary studies.

The RCMI community is encouraged to join the Jackson Heart Study to further understand the etiology and progression of cardiovascular disease among African-Americans.
